Last Bits of Summer

August 29, 2011

We watched our first soccer games of the season over the weekend. Grace’s team had two shut-out wins. (Go Cougars!!)The boys have already started pre-season wrestling workouts, too.

I canned 13 quarts of peaches last week and today I will make some tomato soup for the family to enjoy this winter. (If you want the soup recipe check out the “Grow” category for all my garden related posts.) The beans I picked yesterday need to be processed too.

We had a bitter-sweet parting with Nicky last week when she left for graduate school. This time seems harder, maybe, because I have been blessed by our fleeting times together this last year. Her absence has been temporarily filled by Gary’s girlfriend, who is visiting, but when Josy leaves tomorrow there will be two empty spaces in my heart.

We are going to do a couple of practice days of school this week to get the kinks worked out and the squeeze in one more trip to the mountains to catch a few fish and cut firewood, before we hit the books for this academic year.
As summer changes to fall, how will you make the most of these days?
